Waldron Fly Fishing

My name is Renny Waldron. I was taught to fly fish by my father when I was a very young child, and I come from a family of fly fishermen (there are several generations of fly fishing guides in my family tree). I guide part-time, as my full-time occupation is coaching cross country and track and field at Davidson College, where I am the Men's head coach. I also teach a fly fishing class at Davidson! I am a graduate of Hubbard's Guide School (Emigrant, Montana), which is one of the world's most renown fly-fishing guide schools.

I believe that my experience as a coach really helps in my guiding; I am a very patient person and am familiar with many different coaching techniques; my goal for every guiding trip is not only to ensure that you have a great experience, but also that you leave the day a better fisherman than when you woke up that morning! I am very familiar with the several bodies of waters that I guide on, so I know where the fish are and what they are feeding upon. I have spent many years in the hospitality business and am a decent cook; I guarantee you that you will be well-fed!

I guide all over the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains in Western North Carolina. I do not take clients out in a boat, as most of the waters that I guide are not floatable, so all of our trips require wading. Some of my favorite waters to guide on are Wilson Creek, Stone Mountain, West Fork of the Pigeon River and the Tuckasegee River.

The following review was written by my son, Max Perkins. I gave Max this guided fishing trip for his 51st birthday. The guys at Waldron Fishing were awesome in helping me put this trip together as a surprise gift. I live in New Orleans and my son lives in North Carolina, so everything was done on line or by phone. All went well and my son’s special birthday surprise arrived in a timely manner and he was very surprised and delighted-a perfect gift! Mission accomplished! Martee Fry New Orleans LA MAX’S REVIEW “Renny was a fantastic guide. He guided me, but let me fish, which was exactly what I wanted. He showed me his favorite holes and what had been working. With Renny’s guidance, a river on which I’d had minimal luck in the past, became a 20 fish day. Best of all, I returned a couple weeks later to use the techniques Renny showed me and had another great day. Renny was on time and fished until we couldn’t see our indicators. Thanks for a great day.” Max Perkins Charlotte, NC
