Women Fly Fishing Guides Partnered with Fisher Guiding

It’s our goal at Fisher Guiding to make angling accessible to all and to help achieve the greater industry goal of “50/50 on the water”--creating gender parity in the sport. From our end, we’re working to reduce the barriers of entry to find quality fishing guides and highlighting our female guide partners. This blog features the female fly fishing guides we are partnered with at Fisher Guiding and we will continue to add to it as we bring on more guides. We know there are many, many more female guides out there, who we would love to partner with in the future. If you know of a guide that would be interested in joining our modern network to book fishing trips, we’d love to connect with them! Drop us a line here

WOMEN FLY FISHING GUIDES

Dallas Voss of Explore Kenai

As a life-long Alaskan, who was raised in Kenai, fishing has always been a part of Dallas. Growing up, almost every adventure she can remember revolved around fishing – from large rivers, to small streams and the ocean. Her family not only found free time for sport fisheries, but also took part in commercial fisheries  – gill netting for salmon, longlining for halibut and farming oysters.

In 2014,  she was introduced to fly fishing. After some growing pains the first summer, she fell in love with the sport and has been revolving her free time around fly fishing ever since. Living on the beautiful Kenai Peninsula, her backyard features five species of salmon, rainbow trout, steelhead and grayling.

Abbie Schuster of Kismet Outfitters

Kismet Outfitters is based out of Martha's Vineyard, Maine, and the world! Abbies specializes in bringing all levels of anglers on world class trips and day schools both locally and globally. Her trips can be geared for the the most hardcore angler as well as the complete novice. She loves teaching the art of fly fishing to all levels and ages, and has the knowledge, experience and personal touch to make your experience memorable. Abbie runs a 23 foot Parker out of Martha's Vineyard for striped bass, bluefish, false albacore and bonito.

Jen Mihal of Park City On The Fly

Jen was born and raised in Texas and was constantly outdoors exploring, fishing and hunting. I moved to Utah in my late teens (early 90’s), met Ken (her husband and co-owner) four years later, picked up her first fly rod and never looked back! She spent countless days on these local rivers and all vacations/days off in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and the Bahamas fly fishing! Jen was diagnosed with a brain tumor and double vision in 2012; had brain surgery and 30 rounds of brain radiation in 2016. Her perspective through it all is amazing “All of this has all taught me not to take ANYTHING for granted and to not sweat the small stuff! Trust me, LIFE IS TOO SHORT! My goal is to laugh, love and LIVE a fish filled, amazing life and I would LOVE to share that with you! I will work my hardest to get you into fish and teach you all that you want to learn (or not!).. either way!” Sounds like a great fishing experience if you ask me.

Shelly Ehmer of Shelly Ehmer Fly Fishing

Shelly is a licensed Montana outfitter fishing some of the top trout rivers in the world. Her home waters of the Missouri River, Blackfoot River, Madison River & Bighorn River all boast excellent fishing, and Shelly can create a wonderful and knowledge experience for all anglers.  Shelly has 3 goals while fishing: keep the day fun while anglers learn, do whatever it takes to make them happy, and provide fun and fish to every age!

Janine Young of Angler’s Covey

Janine was born in Kentucky and started fishing when her grandmother taught her how to put a worm on a hook on her Aunt’s pond. Janine has enjoyed fishing ever since! She started fly fishing when her husband and two boys moved to Colorado, and she currently guides with Angler's Covey out of Colorado Springs. Janine enjoys sharing her love for fly fishing, especially with other women and beginners sharing her passion for nature, the beauty of a mountain stream and catching something wild in a wild place. Helping to watch a fly hit the water and see a trout take the fly transports you to another place, away from the cares of normal life.

Julie Sprinkle of Angler’s Covey

Julie Sprinkle is a naturalist and her approach to fly fishing focuses on the complete outdoor experience. A day on the river with her might include a brief lesson on the region's wildflowers, history or geology to enhance your fishing experience. Julie is an active volunteer for the Pikes Peak Women Anglers and assists with the women's classes and Women's Camp. Julie also spends an inordinate amount of time tying flies to replace the ones her husband has pilfered from her fly boxes. She especially enjoys stalking small, wild trout with her 2-weight in obscure, high-country streams.

Mary Kuss of The Sporting Gentleman

Mary is a life-long avid angler.  She began fishing at age 6 and fly fishing at age 15.  Born and raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Mary graduated from Widener University in 1974 with a B.S. in biology.  She worked for the New Jersey Division of Fish and Game for several years before marrying and relocating to the Philadelphia area.  She has worked as a naturalist for the Tyler Arboretum in Media, PA and also coordinated the Arboretum’s adult education programs.

Mary began teaching and guiding for The Sporting Gentleman around 1980, and later worked part-time as a retail clerk for the shop. After attending the fly fishing instructor school at LL Bean in 2008, Susan has assisted with instruction for various groups. She is also a member of the board of the Delaware Valley Women’s Fly Fishing Association.
